Giulia is a professor of mathematics at UiO, and has a PhD in mathematical statistics (2003) from the University of Pavia. Her main research field is stochastic analysis, calculus and control,  but she is also interested in applications of these areas in mathematical finance: risk with portfolio problems, modeling, pricing etc. Giulia is the PI of the Toppforsk project STORM (Stochastics for time-space risk models), a major project involving several PhDs/postdocs and other researchers.

In addition to her high-quality research, Giulia is very active internationally with editorial work for several leading journals, and significant work on promoting mathematics in education/research in Africa (such as the CIMPA organization), as well as work to promote women in mathematics.  She is also an adjunct professor at NHH. She is the recipient of the 2019 ICIAM Su Buchin Prize.
