Carl Friedrich Gauß and Thorsten Theobald both were born on April 30th, where Gauß proceeded Thorsten by 194 years This year it was the 244th year after Gauß’ birthday and this means in particular also it was a special birthday for Thorsten this year. Saturday Afternoon GAthering on Fun In math and the celebration of Fifty Thorsten Years
following the MEGA 2021 conference on Saturday, June 12, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m CEST.
- We start at 2 p.m. CEST with a scientific talk given by Bernd Sturmfels (MPI Leipzig and UC Berkely): Wasserstein Distance to Independence Models
- At 3 p.m. CEST, we have a second scientific talk given by Frank Sottile (Texas A&M): Some Basic Questions About Amoebae
- From around 4 p.m., we plan an “open mic” session where everyone is welcome to congratulate Thorsten and maybe share some memories, followed by a social gather in Gather Space.
The Meeting is fully virtual and will be held via the Gathertown environment used for the MEGA 2021 conference in combination with ZOOM.
